Sporting events in Italy suspended due to coronavirus outbreak
The coronavirus outbreak in Italy has forced the closure of all sporting events in the country until at least April 3. The suspension of all sport in Italy was announced by the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
The suspension affects the Serie A but not Italian clubs or National teams competing in international competitions.
Giuseppe Conte also banned public gatherings in the country to prevent the spread of coronavirus as over 9000 persons have contracted the virus in Italy making them the most affected country in Europe.
A top sports body in Italy named The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) had earlier called for all sporting events in the country to be suspended until the beginning of next month and asked the government to issue a decree to ensure the measure.
The coronavirus outbreak has not only affected football in Italy but in almost all of the top European countries. Most UEFA competitions scheduled for this week and next week will be played behind closed doors as Bayern Munich vs Chelsea is the latest to join the chart.
On Tuesday Valencia vs Atalanta will be played behind closed doors and the supposed visiting fans who had bought tickets has sent their refunds to hospitals in the city to support the medical care of infected persons.
