Funke Akindele & her husband are ex-convicts – Nigerian Lawyer
Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele Bello and her husband Jjc Skillz where arrested earlier this week for organising a house party with over 20 people in attendance, despite government directives to ensure social distancing.
They were arraigned and the couple pleaded guilty. They were also fined the sum of 100,000 Naira each and sentenced to 14 days of community service.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, some lawyers said that the couple are ex-convicts given the situation surrounding the issue.
According to reports from Vanguard, Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, said:
“There is no doubt that they are ex-convicts. This is because before the judge passed the sentence, they would have pleaded guilty, and trial would have taken place before judgment. So, as far as the law is concerned presently, they are ex-convicts”. Mr Ahmed Raji, SAN, also said the same thing in other words.
He said:
“Akindele and her husband, AbdulRasheed Bello, can be referred to as ex-convicts having pleaded guilty and were sentenced for violating restrictions order in Lagos. “Technically speaking, anybody who has gone through a trial and is convicted can be referred to as an ex-convict.”
