Apple now seems to be advancing for it own pair of smart AI glasses. This is coming seven years after Google Glass and four years after the debut of Oculus Rift.

Apple daring aspirations in AR have been clear and well-telegraphed on iPhones and iPads for years. Yearly, Apple’s made significant boost on iOS with its AR tool, as a result the first Apple’s augmented reality headset could launch in 2022 according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The headset that may go global in 2022 offering a mix of AR and virtual reality experiences designed for gaming, entertainment, and communication.

The Apple Glass Stipulations

A new report from Apple leaker, Jon Prosser says tye Apple Glass will start at $499 plus prescription add-ons like lenses.

Noting that the HoloLens and Magic Leap cost thousands of dollars, they’re not targeted at regular consumers at all but the elite. Additionally, VR headsets cost anywhere from $200 to $1,000, and the Oculus Quest’s $400-to-$500 price seems like a good settling point.

The Apple Watch was around the same. If the glasses are accessories, and meant to go with a watch, AirPods and an iPhone, you can’t make it cost too less.

Reports has shown it may involve 3D experiences when scanning a code in a physical location, like a Starbucks, are corroborated by Prosser’s report. The Apple Glass(es) will scan these codes and use them to quick-launch AR experiences.

This idea of QR codes working for AR isn’t new: the 2011 Nintendo 3DS launched with a pack of QR cards that worked with a baked-in AR game, too.

The most current Apple Glass prototype reportedly looks like an “un-intimidating” pair of plastic glasses, while marketing materials suggest a Clark Kent-esque design.

It has a LiDAR scanner on the right temple, but no other cameras for privacy reasons (although that could change.) The glasses also come with a plastic stand with wireless chargers.

Being an accessory to the iPhone will definitely have implications on the Apple Glass design. Though the glasses won’t be lightweight as your Ray-Ban aviators, they could be light enough and comfortable enough to work as everyday glasses.
