Uproar in Rivers as soldier kills tanker driver over refusal to pay N200
There was an uproar today as a tanker driver was killed by an unknown soldier at Army checkpoint along Airport-Omagwa road Rivers State.
An observer narrated that the young man was killed on refusal to pay 200 naira at about 9pm last night.
Every access to the international Airport, obiri Ikwerre, Igwuruta have been blocked by tanker drivers, while the culprit scamper for their lives.
Truck drivers block road leading to the airport in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital in protest after a soldier allegedly killed their colleague over N200.
The aggrieved truck drivers said the incident occurred on the night of yesterday, February 19.
The truck drivers who recalled how they joined Nigerian youths in fighting against security operatives’ brutality, stated that it’s disheartening that such things are still happening.
They also stated that the soldier committed the said offence knowing fully well that the goods that were being conveyed had been cleared and approved by the government.
The truck drivers who cried out for justice, stated that they will only leave the road when the government intervene in the matter.
