Nollywood actor, Yul Chibuike Daniel Edochie popularly known as Yul Edochie is one of the big shots in the Nollywood Industry today, his popularity cannot all be ascribed to his father, Pete Edochie, as he has also struggled to create a name for himself.
Background:
Yul Edochie was born on January 7th, 1982 in Enugu State, Nigeria. He is the last son of his parents. His dad, Pete Edochie is a Nollywood veteran actor and his mum, Josephine Edochie was a media worker. They gave birth to six children, five males(Leo Edochie, Uche Edochie who is a skilled painter, Linc Edochie who happens to be an actor, a script writer and the founder of a school called ABH Academy, Gene Edochie and Yul Edochie) and a female. Yul happens to be the last child of his parents.
Yul Edochie attended the Robinson street Primary School Enugu before moving over to Marist Brothers Juniorate, Uturu. He later moved into the University Secondary School, Enugu but didn’t stay there for long as again, he enrolled into the Ecumenical Community Secondary School. Not too long, he enrolled into New Haven Boys Secondary School, Enugu.
Upon his completion of his basic education, Yul Edochie got admitted into the prestigious University of Port Harcourt where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts in 2013.
Career:
Yul Edochie joined the Nollywood industry in 2005 after completing his National Youth Service Corps, his first appearance was in the movie titled “The Exquires” but that was not the movie that made him famous. He became popular after acting “Winds of Glory” in 2007.
The actor has been doing well for himself as he is not just an actor but also a director and a politician. He had said in an interview that he isn’t in the Nigerian movie industry to continue from where his father stopped but rather, he is there to play his part in the society.
He said,
“It is not my plan to fill my father’s shoes; I have just set out to play my part in the society. I am not under any pressure to surpass my father’s achievements in the movie industry. I am just here, being myself. I have always loved acting and mimicking people. At a very early age, it was obvious that I was also going to become an actor. I was named after an actor called Yul Brynner. However, I am not under any pressure to surpass my father.”

In 2009, Yul Edochie won the Best New Actor of the Year(English)at the City People Entertainment Awards.
In 2012, he was nominated for the Best Actor in a supporting role in 2012 Nollywood Movies Awards.

In 2013, he again won the Best Actor at the Pamsaa Awards.

Marital Life:
Yul Edochie got married to the love of his life, May Yul Edochie in 2002, then, he was 22 years old. According to him, they dated for six years before tying the knots. The couple are blessed with four lovely children, a girl named Danielle Yul Edochie and three boys(Kambi Yul Edochie, Karl Yul Edochie, and Victory Zane Chibuike Yul Edochie).
When asked in an interview the reason his wife doesn’t appear in the media frequently he said his wife who is a graduate of Computer Engineering and an entrepreneur does not like being in the media as she isn’t used to it.
Controversies:
In 2015, one Steven Ugochukwu had accused Yul Edochie of being a gay and having a relationship with him. The gay posted pictures and chats on his social media handle claiming they were evidences.
Yul Edochie while responding to the rumour said,
“It’s crazy this thing has been on for too long; it’s been going on for months. I’ve been trying to plead with the guy all this while to stop all this. I am a man of peace and I don’t have time for all that.
“He started off just as a fan sending me messages on social media. Then he started coming on with all that gay nonsense and I said to him bros I don’t do that and I am married please leave me alone.
“He tries to be a friend and all that and I ignore him. Then he starts saying things like ‘that is the problem with you celebrities who are snobbish’ and all that and he continues on this for a long time and I finally agreed with him that ‘bros I don’t snub people you can be my friend, fine’. Then that was it and we become normal friends and he sends me chat messages and we chat like friends.
“After a very long time he says he wants to do something for my family because of how he admires me as a person. He said he wants to help my family get citizenship to Canada.”
“I believed him and sent him the documents he said he would require, but as soon as he has my family’s documents, he starts asking me to send him pictures of my d***k.”
“That’s when he started doing all sorts of rubbish and posting photo shopped images of my face on dirty naked pictures and posting them online. He did the same to my fans that make comments or tweet at me on my timeline and all sorts of nonsense.
“He has been posting my phone number on gay websites using the name NELLY. And gays keep calling me. He calls me a thousand times in one day. If I change my number he gets it again because he has some friends in Nollywood”.
“This has been going on for so long and now I am ready to spend the last money that I have to hunt this guy down and put him in prison.”
Yul Edochie on the 4th of May 2019 was involved in a fatal auto crash on his way from the East to Lagos. The accident was said to have happened along Ore-Benin Expressway. According to him, his Nissan Pathfinder SUV got damaged beyond repair. He revealed this through his Instagram post.
“In 2019 I actually died in this accident. My whole life was flashed before me in a second & a voice told me ‘it’s over’, then black out,” he wrote.
“But God gave me a 2nd life. This 2nd life is dedicated to helping people, making the world a better place & spreading the word of God” he added.
Appointments/Deals/Endorsements:
He was appointed Senior Special Assistant on to the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano on Creative and Entertainment Media.
In 2016, he was signed as a brand ambassador of Ninos brand, a brand that specializes on educational tablet and GPS smart watches for kids.
In 2017, he became the face of OROS Luxurious French fragrance, a perfume company.
Recently, he endorsed Paint Roxettes, a painting company.
Philanthropy:
Yul Edochie in 2015 opened a film academy in Lagos State called “Yul Edochie Academy”. According to him, the low performance and professionalism exhibited by up and coming actors and actresses inspired him to open this academy as it will help train people and give talented people the opportunity to be introduced into the Nigeria Film Industry.
Yul Edochie is also a Television Personality, his Interview programme called “Life with Yul Edochie” has attracted a good number of fan. The interview brings different celebrities to the stage.
While revealing the secret of his success, he said his father brought him up well. In his social media handle he posted,
“In JS2, I told my father I didn’t want to go to school anymore, he should open an electrical shop for me. He said okay. He invited me to his room, locked the door, pulled out his belt and gave me a beating that reset my brain to factory settings. Look at me today. Thank you Dad.”
Political Ambition:
On July 14th, 2017, Yul Edochie had announced his intention to run for the office of the Governor of Anambra State, he made it formal after picking a nomination form under the Democratic People’s Congress in August 22nd, 2017. He emerged as the flag bearer of the party but lost the election.
He later supported the then Peoples Democratic Party Presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar.
Recently, he announced his intention to run for the office of the President of Nigeria. He has already been endorsed by his father, Chief Pete Edochie. He made this known through a video he shared on his Instagram handle on the 11th of February, 2021.
He wrote,
“My father, Chief Pete Edochie endorses my 2023 Presidential ambition, God Almighty take absolute control.”
Concerning his political career, he said,
“My father does not like politics. He did not really like the idea of me venturing into politics but I made him realise that if we are all shying away from politics, who is going to save this country? So he just had to give me his support because everybody has been shying away from politics for too long and that is why Nigeria is the way it is. I would say that he is supporting me all the way,”
