“Why I Will Never Showcase My Lover On Social Media”- Actress Sharon Ooja Reveals, Gives Reasons

Using Kanye West and Kim Kardashian sour love story and constant fight on social media, nollywood actress, Sharon Ooja has vowed to keep her relationship private.

Sharon Ooja Egwurube is fast becoming a household name in the Nollywood industry. The 30 year old actress was born on the 6th of April, 1991 in Kaduna State. She is an indigene of Benue but grew up in Plateau State in a family of four girls, she has stated in an interview that she was very stubborn during her childhood and that she also shares a strong bond with her sisters .

Sharon did her basic education in Kings and Queens School, Jo’s and then did her Secondary education in Regina Pacis Secondary School in Garki II Abuja, and in St. Louis Girls’ College, Jos. After the completion of her Secondary education, she got admitted into Houdegbe North America University, Benin Republic where she studied Mass Communication.

Career

In 2013, Sharon Ooja moved into Lagos and that was the beginning of her acting career. In an interview, she stated that her going into was not planned.

According to her, while working in a real estate firm, she had come for an interview with Ndani TV for a talk show but as luck may have it, the interview didn’t hold and then, she was called to act a role.

She said,

“I believe that God wanted this path for me because I honestly bumped into acting. I was at a photo session for a store and NdaniTV was covering the behind-the-scenes activities of the shoot.

I was invited for an interview the next week for a television show that didn’t eventually happen. Shortly after, they called me to play in a small role in the television series, Gidi Up. Then, I featured in Skinny Girl in Transit, where I played the character, Shalewa.

I’ve grown in my acting and I’m very passionate about the craft, so much that I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world”.

At a point, her dream was to belong to the medical field but the dream wasn’t fulfilled. With her parents support, especially her mum who was in the entertainment industry, Sharon found her feet in the industry.

She acted the role of Jola in the 2013-2014 TV series, ‘Gidi up’ a show by Ndani TV
She also acted the role of Shalewa in the 2016-2020 series ‘Skinny Girl in Transit’ still a show by Ndani TV.

And in 2018-2020 she acted the character of Jasmine in ‘The Men’s Club’ a show by Red TV(UBA).

She also acted the following series: My Flatmates, Jenifa’s Diary(Season 12), Tough Love.

Sharon Ooja has acted with the likes of Nancy Isime, Funke Akindele, Alexx Ekubo, Kemi Adetiba, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Toyin Abraham, Jim Iyke and Chiwetalu Agu.

According to the actress, her mum is her role model and she is a top fan of the following actors: Shaffy Bello, Gabrielle Union, Keira Knightley, Funke Kuti, Ngozi Nwosu and Mo Abudu.

In 2019, she was nominated as the Revelation of the Year in the Best of Nollywood Awards.

In 2020, she was nominated as the Best Supporting Actress(English) at the Best of Nollywood Award.

Best New Actress of the Year(English) at City People Movie Award.

Most Featured Actress in Cinema Movies at the City People Movie Award.

In 2021 during the Eko Star Film and TV Awards, she was given a recognition award.

Deals/Endorsements

The Nollywood star is a brand ambassador to so many brands. On November 28th, 2020, she announced her endorsement as a Schweppes Ambassador.

She is also a brand ambassador to Boz diamond, CM Hair and sometimes advertises Armanibeauty.

On February 2nd, 2021, the actress announced her new deal with VSP Botanics, a brand that deals on beauty, cosmetics and personal care. Not long after that came another endorsement in April as she became a brand ambassador to Throne homes.

Sharon Ooja is now a land owner in Abuja. The 30 year old actress has a networth of over $300,000. She has announced plans to launch her own fashion and hair line soon.

Revealing this during an interview, she said,

“I love hair and will definitely go into the hair business because I have good knowledge of it. I intend to launch a fashion line as well. I am very passionate about the girl child and would like to start a skill acquisition programme, such as a short summer camp for young girls. It’d be nice for them to gain knowledge, further their education and grow their business”.

Controversy(ies)

The actress has also had her own share of the rumours celebrities face. She was rumoured to be dating actor Timini Egbuson. However in one of her interviews, with Wazobia TV in particular, she debunked the rumour saying they are just friends.

“Timini is a fantastic actor to work with and a ladies man that why it looks like we have chemistry going on but we are not. I am not dating Timini, I’m a single young lady and I’m ready to be in a relationship.”

Speaking about marriage, the full Northerner said she is waiting for God’s time. She also revealed that she is not materialistic as some people may think.

She said,

“I’m not pressured for marriage because I believe God’s time is the best
I’m also scared of going into a relationship because of the kind of guys that approach me. Most of them all they see is the outside beauty but don’t know there’s so much more I have to offer than beauty”.

“I am attracted to intelligent people, not materialistic people as oppose to speculations from social media.
If you go through my page you will think I’m materialistic but I don’t let these things consume me like what people think”.

Sharon is a fashion lover. Her hobbies include: music, dancing, reading books, styling her hair, watching other actors act and eating.
