See changes that could be coming to Twitter, according to its new owner, Elon Musk
Billionaire entrepreneur, Elon Musk has taken control of Twitter after purchasing it for $44 billion.
According to reports, this was confirmed on Monday by Twitter.
The sale was a dramatic shift for the board, which had originally manoeuvred to block Musk from taking the social media network private.
Following his emergence as the new Twitter owner, Elon Musk plans to make some changes to the platform.
The billionaire had made a closed survey in which he asked users to answer yes or no to the question of whether they considered that there was freedom of expression on Twitter, 70% answered in the negative.
Since he is now the new Twitter CEO, Musk plan to redesign the platform in such a way that people can express themselves the way they want without fear of being restricted.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said in a joint statement announcing the takeover.
As you may also know, the Tesla co-founder had spoken in the past about an ‘Edit Button’ on the platform and in fact, even held a poll.
To prove a point, he deliberately misspelt yes and no. This was to highlight that an edit button is needed given the typos that people tend to make while tweeting.
Likewise, Musk suggested that Twitter’s algorithm should be open source and through another poll 83% of the one million respondents supported his proposal.
Another important point is that Musk believes that Twitter users should be able to see if their post has been downgraded or promoted so that there is no manipulation.
