Grammy Award Winning Lead Singer William Hart Dies at 77

Grammy Award winning lead singer William Hart, has passed away on Thursday at the age of 77 in Philadelphia.

Williams nicknamed ‘poogie’ was best known as a lead singer of The Defonics 1960s Band which put out the hit songs Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time) and Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide from Love).

The sad news of the singer departure was shared to TMZ by his son Hadi, on Friday morning.

William was having trouble breathing so he taken to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he passed away Thursday, July 14, from complications during surgery; his son shared with the outlet.

William and his brother, Wilbert, launched the Philly-based group in the late ’60s with Randy Cain, Ritchie Daniels and Thom Bell.

The Delfonics won a Grammy Award in 1971 for “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)” for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group, Vocal Or Instrumental.

Hart also sang in a variety of groups including Little Hart and The Everglows, the Veltones, the Four Guys, and the Four Gents.
