Apple Sued By Two Women Who Allege Their Exes Used AirTags To Track Their Locations
Apple is facing a new lawsuit after two women have alleged that their exes have been using the company’s AirTags to track their locations.
According to CNN, on Monday a class action lawsuit was filed in federal court in San Francisco on behalf of one woman from Texas and another woman from New York.
Both women have claimed that they are being stalked by their exes, and it’s all thanks to Apple’s AirTags. One of the women alleges that her ex-boyfriend disguised the AirTag by using a sharpie to color it black and then placed it into a plastic bag. The AirTag was then placed in the wheel well of a tire on her car.
The other woman, who has been identified as Jane Doe, alleges that her ex-husband placed an AirTag in their child’s backpack and when she attempted to disable it, he placed another one in the child’s bag.
Jane Doe claims that her ex had been harassing her and challenging her about her whereabouts. The lawsuit stated, “Ms. Doe continues to fear for her safety at minimum, her stalker has evidenced a commitment to continuing to use AirTags to track, harass, and threaten her, and continues to use AirTags to find Plaintiff’s location.”
Apple has not commented on the lawsuit. However, earlier this year the tech company did make additional safeguards to the AirTag to lower unwanted tracking. At the time, the company said, “We condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products.” Both women are seeking unspecified monetary damages.
