“He Spends Over 50 Million Naira Weekly On Alcohol” – Chibuike Amaechi SLAMS Wike’s ‘Drunken’ Lifestyle
On Tuesday, former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, made some controversial remarks about the current governor, Nyesom Wike, during a campaign event for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Tonye Cole.
Amaechi, who is also the Minister of Transportation, referred to Wike as a “drunk,” claiming that he spends a whopping N50 million on alcohol every week. He also accused Wike of planning to secure a third term in office through his ally and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Siminalayi Fubara.
The former governor went on to express his frustration about the amount of state funds being allegedly wasted on alcohol alone, stating that these funds could have been put towards projects that would benefit the people of the state.
Amaechi’s remarks have drawn criticism from various quarters, with many accusing him of making baseless accusations and resorting to personal attacks rather than addressing the issues at hand. Some have also pointed out that such comments do not reflect positively on the political culture in the state and could potentially incite violence or further polarize the electorate.
The governor’s office has yet to issue an official response to the allegations made by Amaechi. However, Wike has been a vocal critic of the APC-led federal government, and the two politicians have a long-standing feud dating back to Amaechi’s time as governor.
The governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections in Rivers State are set to take place on March 18, 2023, and the race is expected to be fiercely contested between the APC and the PDP.
