Champion League: Fans Angry At ‘PATHETIC’ Chelsea As Real Madrid Send Blues Home
Chelsea’s dreams of clinching the Champions League title came to a crushing end after they were defeated 4-0 on aggregate by Real Madrid in the quarterfinals.
The Spanish giants produced a dominant performance over two legs, securing a 3-1 win in the first leg and following it up with a 1-0 victory in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
In the first leg, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio scored for Real Madrid, leaving Chelsea with an uphill task in the second leg. The Blues’ fate was sealed in the second leg as a brace from Rodrygo secured Real Madrid’s passage to the semi-finals.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard came under scrutiny for his questionable team selection in the return leg, leaving out Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling ,
Additionally, Ben Chilwell was suspended, and Kalidou Koulibaly was absent due to an injury.
Despite Chelsea’s strong first-half showing, with N’Golo Kante and Marc Cucurella squandering clear chances to equalize the score in the tie, the Blues were unable to convert their chances.
As a result, Carlo Ancelotti’s side dominated the second half and secured a comfortable victory.
Chelsea now has to shift their focus to the Premier League, with only seven games remaining. They must improve their current position in the table to qualify for European football next season.
The Blues’ inability to convert good chances was their downfall once again, with Madrid progressing to the last-four of the competition.
Real Madrid will now face the winner of the tie between Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the semi-finals. Manchester City holds a commanding 3-0 first-leg advantage heading into the second-leg against Bayern in Germany.
Unfortunately for Chelsea, Lampard was unable to bring a third Champions League trophy to Stamford Bridge, following in the footsteps of Thomas Tuchel from 2021. The team must now look to regroup and come back stronger next season.
