In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the AE-FUNAI community is mourning the loss of Cynthia Okafor, a former Vice Presidential aspirant for the Student Union Government (SUG), who tragically passed away within a year filled with both joy and deep sorrow.
Cynthia’s story is a tragic one. She got married in January 2024, marking what should have been the beginning of a joyful chapter in her life. However, just a few months later, her husband passed away, leaving her devastated. Despite the pain, Cynthia found hope again when she welcomed a baby girl in October. Sadly, news has now emerged that Cynthia has also passed on, leaving behind her newborn child.
Friends and colleagues from AE-FUNAI have expressed their shock and grief. Many took to social media to share memories of her as a kind-hearted and vibrant individual. One friend, Kings Ebere, lamented the devastating loss, stating that just nine months ago, he had congratulated her on her marriage, only to now be mourning her untimely death.
Chidimma Okolomike, another close friend, shared how 2024 had been both a year of happiness and cruelty for Cynthia. Reflecting on the events, Chidimma recalled attending Cynthia’s traditional marriage in January and the deep pain that followed when Cynthia lost her husband in April. Despite the tragedy, Chidimma was hopeful when Cynthia gave birth to her daughter, but that joy has now turned into heartbreak.
Cynthia’s passing leaves a void not only in the lives of her friends and family but also in the hearts of those who knew her as a cheerful, jolly soul. The tragic sequence of events has left the community in deep mourning, as they come to terms with losing someone so young and full of life.
May her soul rest in peace.
