ABOUT THE MOVIE
The movie “Gangs of Lagos” follows a group of friends who turn to a life of crime in the challenging streets of Isale Eko after experiencing devastating losses. They embark on a mission to seek revenge and correct the injustices committed by the street gangs.
Isale Eko, a bustling city in Nigeria, is where Obalola was born. His birth was shrouded in controversy, as he was the son of a notorious kingpin and a devout mother. Unfortunately, Obalola’s father died young, leaving him to be raised solely by his mother. She prayed constantly that her son would not follow in his father’s footsteps, but Obalola seemed destined to become a ruler of the streets like his father.
Growing up on the tough streets of Isale Eko, Obalola learned quickly that survival meant dominating those around him. With his charisma and street smarts, he rose to the top of the food chain and became the leader of a band of loyal street fighters. Gift, played by Adesua Etomi-Wellington, was his right-hand woman and possibly his love interest.
However, the fragile peace in Isale Eko is shattered when a betrayal occurs involving one of the street lords and Gift. Obalola is forced to seek revenge, leading to a deadly feud that threatens to tear the city apart. As the death toll rises, it becomes clear that only the strongest can emerge victorious in this power struggle.
Despite his best efforts to maintain control, Obalola finds that ruling with terror only breeds resentment and rebellion among his people. As the war escalates, former allies turn against him and seek to seize power for themselves. In the end, it’s a fight to the death for the future of Isale Eko.
The cast of Gangs of Lagos delivers powerful performances, with Tobi Bakre shining in the lead role of Obalola. Iyabo Ojo delivers a standout performance as Iya Oba, Obalola’s mother, who tries desperately to steer her son away from a life of crime. With a gripping storyline and top-notch production values, Gangs of Lagos is a must-see for fans of Nigerian cinema and crime dramas alike.
