Spurs midfielder Eric Dier runs into crowd to confront fan
Tottenham Hostpur midfielder Eric Dier ran into the crowd to confront a fan who was insulting him in Wednesday’s Fa Cup match against Norwich.
After losing to Norwich in the FA cup on Wednesday night, an angry fan was believed to have insulted Eric Dier along with his family and the English defender couldn’t take it in but insisted on confronting the fan.
Dier was seen climbing over the seats to approach the abusive fan at the top row of seats but was held off by security and fans from getting into a physical fight with the fan.
Dier’s brother was also in the crowd and was seen trying to get involved but he was also held off by stewards.
Eric Dier was among the scorers in the penalty shootout against Norwich but Tim Krul saved two other penalties from Sours.
The English Football Association and Tottenham are currently investigating the incident.
When asked about the incident, Spurs manager Jose Mourinho said:
“I think Eric did what we professionals cannot do but probably every one of us would do.”
“I repeat we professionals cannot do it, but I repeat I am with the player and I understand the player. The fans were with the team until the last penalty kick that we missed.
“This person insulted Eric, the family was there, the younger brother was not happy with the situation.”
Mourinho also spoke of the prospect of the club taking action on the midfielder ‘s reaction “If the club does that I will not agree, but he did wrong.”
